Location: U.S. Courthouse, 700 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

"Building a Successful Mediation & Collaborative Practice: Refining the Initial Client / Party Meeting and Exploring New Client / Party Centered Models

With Guest Lecturer Woody Mosten

The MCWP and Collaborative Law Association of Southwestern Pennsylvania will be hosting an interactive training session prior to the Kaplan Lecture.

Whether you are an attorney, collaborative practitioner, mediator or other professional, initial meetings with potential clients, clients or parties are the foundations of effective professional relationships. Those initial meetings set the tone and establish the often unspoken expectations for the relationship. Initial meetings also provide opportunities to begin educating clients/parties about their process choices, and assisting them to be informed consumers of services and understanding their role as agents in the process, be it collaboration, mediation or some other alternative dispute resolution process. This training will be a great opportunity to enrich your mediation practice by improving your initial client meeting.

Trainer: Forrest "Woody" Mosten, Collaborative Attorney, Certified Family Law Specialist and Mediator

3 hours substantive credit

Cost: $200 (or $120 if also attending the evening Kaplan lecture)

"The Future of Conflict Resolution"

With Guest Lecturer Woody Mosten

Professor Forrest (Woody) Mosten has been a pioneer in conflict resolution and has been a model for so many of us since opening his mediation practice in 1979, and through his many books and articles.
Is society moving away from adversarial processes to resolve conflicts?

Will "alternatives" no longer be alternatives, but rather the first option choice?

In his 2015 Kaplan Lecture, Woody will provide an inspiring vision for our peacemaking work as he shares his legendary creativity to predict trends and innovations about the future of conflict resolution.

As always, there will be heavy hors d'oeuvres and a cocktail hour before the lecture.

Trainer: Forrest "Woody" Mosten, Collaborative Attorney, Certified Family Law Specialist and Mediator

Cost: $50
